Every year I find myself on a mission to create valentines for my daughter’s classroom that are candy free and aren’t destined to go straight to the trash. This year I stumbled upon the cutest heart shaped paint pallets at an affordable price. I showed my daughter a couple of options, but when she saw these, the choice was easy. Not only do these boast 16 different colors, but she quickly noted there are THREE different shades of pink on the palette. So I got to designing.
I hand drew the paint brush image for these tags and let my daughter pick out 6 different colors for them. I also crafted up 3 different artfully inspired play on words to add to the design. I’ve included 3 different files for you to choose from. Just print the PDF version and cut them out by hand (You’ll also need a hole punch for this option). Or you can snag the PNG and load into your cutting machine software. See below for some of my tips when using a Cricut.

SUPPLIES:
Heart Shape Paint Palettes This is the set I got. It comes in a pack of 24.
5X7 Canvass Boards This is the set I got because it came with the exact amount I needed. But there are loads of other alternatives on Amazon and I’m pretty sure they even have them at the Dollar Tree.
White Cardstock This is the exact one I’m using for this project. It is a lighter weight than I like, but it’s a HUGE pack for a great price.
Tulle, Ribbon, Or Yarn The one I’m using if a neon pink I had on hand purchased from Hobby Lobby.
Scissors
Hole PunchThe one I’m using in the video is one I’ve had for years, but here’s a pack of 2 sizes for a great price
Printer I’m low-key obsessed with my Epson printer. This printer will save you buckets of money in the long run on ink cartridges, as it uses bottles of ink instead of overpriced cartridges.

Tips For Using Your Cutting Machine:
Once you’ve gained access to my printables, you may notice that the PNG and JPEG files have the paintbrushes slightly larger scale. That’s because once you’ve adjusted the file into your cutting software you’ll have to scale it quite a bit smaller to fit within the limits of your sheet. Note, I did use a hack for getting my tags a tad larger than my Cricut Design Space wanted me to scale it. Using this hack allows you to get the tags to print about 4.75″ from top to bottom, which is roughly what they are in the PDF file for a manual cut as well.
To hack the software as I’ve mentioned, check out THIS VIDEO from creator Dinosaur Mama on YouTube that details how you can trick your software into allowing a larger scale.
Also note, that these images are hand drawn. So the edges are a bit pixelated in my files. When running the PNG it was taking kind of a while on the machine to run through those edges. So then I tried just loading in the JPEG and removing the background myself and setting the color tolerance to 100. This allowed for a much quicker cut around those edges, so try that if you are having trouble.
