Hey my crafty people! Today I’m serving up a crafty way to elevate your rope baskets. This project uses simple embroidery stitches and thin macrame cord to personalize your basket. I’ve embellished mine with my daughter’s name for this year’s Easter basket, but this method could be used for a variety of purposes. Personalize any gift basket, or even jazz up baskets for your home storage. The options are limitless.

I’ve filmed a full video tutorial showing my process. Because this project is best explained through video, I’m only including links for all supplies needed in this post. Check out that list below showing all the exact supplies I’m using in the tutorial, then head over to my video to see the full process.

This project uses a simple chain stitch for the embroidery. I did my best to break the composition of that stitch down in my video. However, if you need any further support I recommend doing a quick search on Pinterest, where you’ll find loads of help creating a chain stitch the way I’m doing it. You may also come across some tutorials using the “backwards” technique, which will yield the same result.

Given that we are embroidering with and through rope, the process for this is not quite as seamless as embroidering with floss and fabric. But you’ll find that the stitches and process are the same. It just requires a bit more hand strength and manipulating each stitch. This is why I highly recommend using a grippy thimble. The Wonder Grip & Thimble that I’m using in the video worked great. It has a hard tip for the index finger, helping to push the needle as far in as possible, then extra grips on the pads of the fingers to assist with pulling the needle through the thick material. But I do think a couple of rubber or silicone thimbles would work as well.
